Red Sox Email

10/27/2004
Submitted to the Boston Red Sox web site

Good day:

I wanted to take a few minutes to express my thanks for providing me and my mother, who is in the waning days of a three-year battle with cancer, with perhaps our greatest baseball memories ever while I was visiting her in California.

My mother has been a long-time baseball fan and has loved the Red Sox for many years. Together, she and I watched the last five games of the AL Pennant series, and the first two games of the World Series. During the ALCS, she practically willed David Ortiz's game-winning homer in game 4, as well as his home run in the bottom of the 8th in game 5 and his game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the 14th.

Although I hold out hope that my mother will prevail over the cancer, the chances do not appear likely that she will.

Thank you all so much for providing her with such a thrilling ALCS series and for bringing her such joy while watching a sport she has loved for so many years. The time I spent with my mother watching that series will remain a lifelong, Wonderful memory for me.

Sincerely,

Carlos

Dear Carlos,

Thank you so much for writing to us here at the Boston Red Sox. I apologize for the delay in my response, but as I am sure you can imagine, we were completely inundated with emails and letters after the post season.

I would like to personally take this opportunity to thank you for sharing the touching story of your mother with us. I cannot tell you how touched we were to hear about you and your mother enjoying games that ultimately resulted in every Red Sox fan's dream; our first World Championship in eighty-sox years. Thank you again for your poignant story, and if there is anything else I can do for you, please let me know.

Kelly Barons listed her full contact information in her email. I thought it was quite big of her to do. Turns out she was only 18 at the time, and doing double duty as a Red Sox ball girl. What a kind young woman.
